Roman Legionary Shields

These large size Roman Scutums are linen covered and have a large brass boss for hand protection. Our Roman arena shield has a core of plywood, which is covered in linen, then painted.

Our Republican Oval Scutum, made from 1/2 inch plywood, linen covered, with leather rim. Leather edge is stitched to look like sinew. The Shield includes large steel boss, central rib, integral handle and hand painted wing design on the front.

Our Republican Shield is a large rounded edge rectangular Roman Shield.  Perfect for reenactment. Iron boss and beautiful laurels painted around the edge. 

The Scutum was carried by Roman soldiers from 100 A.D. onward. These large Roman Scutums are linen covered and have a large Brass Boss for hand protection. The core of our Roman Shield is poplar wood and painted.

This blank Roman Shield Scutum is constructed from poplar wood which is overlaid in linen. The shield is rimmed in brass and fitted with a central wooden grip. A brass shield boss with mounting hardware is included.

This square Roman shield boss is constructed from brass and is blackened on the reverse. It is pre-drilled and included with the boss are mounting screws with brass dome caps.
